This morning, I awoke to the terrible news of the passing of French electro producer DJ Mehdi. According to DJ Mag, he was on the roof of his home in Paris with a group of friends celebrating the birthday of Riton, his partner in Carte Blanche, when the roof collapsed. A number of other people are reported to have been injured as well. Mehdi is considered to be one of the pioneers in mixing electronic music and hip-hop. Mehdi's standout track "I Am Somebody", which features Chromeo, was used in a commercial in the U.S. for XM Radio. Back in February, Medhi produced a tune for Ed Banger's Let The Children Techno compilation in what would become his final original release. Eerily enough, the tune is called "TragicoMehdi".
