Pretty Lights - We Must Go On (Video)

Pretty Lights just released a brand new song and music video. The track is called "We Must Go On" and it is a laid back hip-hop tune that samples the song "You Can't Blame Me" by the 70's group Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr. "We Must Go On" showcases more of the relaxed side of Pretty Lights, as opposed to the bass fueled "I Know The Truth" he released last summer. The video was shot by PL's creative director and girlfriend Krystle Blackburn and is a compilation of different places they visited during 2011 in cities such as Detroit, Warsaw, NYC, Vancouver, Toronto, London, Paris, Prague, New Orleans, Auckland, Sydney, Denver and many more. Childish Gambino - Heartbeat Remixes

Glassnote Records recently released two official remixes for the song "Heartbeat" by Childish Gambino. The remix duties were given to Oliver and Treasure Fingers, and the final products were released earlier this week. You may or may not know that Gambino is, in fact, the hip-hop stage name of Donald Glover from the TV show Community. Since 2008, Gambino has had almost as much success on stage as he has had on screen. He released his first studio album back in Novemeber called Camp, also on Glassnote Records. As for the remixes, both are extremely funky yet different. Oliver takes on a slower loungey tempo, while Treasure Fingers gives it a house vibe. You may find it interesting to know that 1/2 of Oliver is Canadian producer U-Tern who, as it turns out, will be DJ'ing in Dallas tonight at Rio Room. Be sure to go check him out. Jantsen and Dirt Monkey have a new moombahton collaboration out now called "Sand Man". The track is featured on the Dreamchaser EP from Play Me Records, which also features tracks from Dark Elixir, and Metaphase & Kimie Miner. So far, "Sand Man" has reached #7 on the Beatport Glitch Hop chart and it has only been out for 3 days. Jantsen and Dirt Monkey are both from Boulder, CO and have both made quite a name for themselves individually with support from big name producers such as Bassnectar, Excision, PropaTingz, and Downlink just to name a few. Today, they put up an additional track for free download called "Ziggy" that heavily samples female rapper Ak'Sent. Both of these tunes are certified moombah bangers. Break Science - Victory

Break Science have a new full length album coming out titled Monolith Code on January 31st via Pretty Lights Music. Today, they have released a new single off the upcoming album called "Victory". It is a great bass track with elements of both hip-hop and dubstep. Break Science consists of Brooklyn residents Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee, who met in the NYC hip hop scene during the early 2000s. Since then, they have teamed up to create an electronic sound that draws influences from hip hop, glitch, trip hop, drum and bass, and dubstep. While they both program the actual music, when playing live shows you will find Adam improvising on a live drum kit while Borahm handles the digital aspect of the music. Break Science were just announced to be a part of this year's Wakarusa Festival in Ozark, Arkansas on May 31st-June 3rd. You can get tickets here. Below you can listen and download the new single. Justice - On'n'on (Rick Rubin Remix)

Legendary record prodcer and Def Jam Records co-founder Rick Rubin just released a remix for the new Justice single "On'n'on". Although the official title sarcastically says "Ruined by Rick Rubin", he did a great job on this remix as would be expected. Rubin put a nice funk flavor on the track that gives it a bit more kick than the spacey original version. Justice just released the video for "On'n'on" last week in anticipation for the official release of the single on Ed Banger Records. The single will come with remixes from not only Rick Rubin, but also by Brodinski, Erol Alkan, and Tiga. Be sure to grab it when it comes out on January 30th. The full single was released this month on Discotexas, and comes with remixes from Xinobi and Bright Shades. New single from Atlanta's Le Castle Vania. The tune is called "The Light" and was released today on his own Always Never Records. This track is more on the nu-disco side of the dance music spectrum, as opposed to the heavy electro he usually puts out. Although the tune is a bit more funky than usual, it still has that pumping drum sound and dirty bassline that LCV is known for. "The Light" was previously only available on the Bulletproof Tiger Vol. 2 mixtape. Now it is available in its full glory. In its first day it reached #1 on Hype Machine's Twitter chart. Toronto's Jokers Of The Scene released their JOT5 EP last week on Fools Gold Records. It is the group's fifth release on that label. In the very beginning of their career, the duo were cranking out tunes that would be considered bangers. Since then, their tracks have evolved in to more of an ambient, if not darker, sound. With their latest release, they seem to have abandoned the party anthem sound altogether and have focused on more spaced out synth sounds and experimental techno. Australian pop singer Giulietta's latest single has been given the official remix treatment by Dallas DJ/producer/promoter Jeremy Word. The remix gives the tune an electro house touch, while also maintaining the sound of the original and not making it unrecognizable. The remix comes with a video that features Giulietta herself, along with local dancers Nick Bailey, Abbie Blankenship, Nathan Cavitt, Mando Herrera, DK Kilpatrick, and Alex Malakara. It was directed by Jeff Adair from Dream.Work.Conquer Films and the shirts you see the dancers wearing were made by Recreational Addicts. Jeremy Word is no doubt one of the leaders of the Dallas EDM scene. Known as Kid Icarus earlier in his career, Jeremy is not just a top notch DJ and producer. Today is the release date of the audio/video project by Britain's Futurecop!. The project is simply called The Movie, and is available through Kiez Beats Records. This 13-track album is consumed with dreamy synthesizers and has a very nostalgic sound reminiscent of soundtracks from 80's fantasy movies such as The NeverEnding Story. In fact, the concept of the album is that it is the instrumental soundtrack to an imaginative "movie" from the group's childhood. Although there does not appear to be any full length film set to be released, the group did make a video for every tune on the album. You can check them out on the band's YouTube page. The M Machine have released a music video for the debut single "Glow" off their debut album Metropolis, which will be released on OWSLA. The M Machine are 3 producers from San Francisco who, until about a year ago, were known as Pants Party. They have been getting support from the likes of Benny Benassi and Porter Robinson, and have played to big crowds at Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Zoo, and the Lights All Night NYE party here in Dallas. Expect things to only get better for the the trio when their album drops. No word yet on when the exact date will be. As for the video, it was directed by Mike Diva and, according to The M Machine, "We wanted to showcase one life in the city of Metropolis. ‘Glow’ is the story of finding yourself in a deeply unsettling place and breaking free". Gomma Records was approached last year to rework a handful of classic tunes from the legendary Casablanca Records catalogue. So Moullinex, Telonius, Munk, and The Phenomenal Handclap Band all did four new interpretations of classic tracks by Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder, Stephanie Mills, and others. For the vocal parts, they recruited Canadian electro queen Peaches on all the tracks. Today, Moullinex debuted the video for his rework of Michael Sembello's 1983 hit "Maniac" from the Flashdance soundtrack. Up and coming Dallas rapper Jay Fresh has released the first single of the upcoming Delta Project called "Amazing". The Delta Project is a compilation of Jay Fresh original lyrics over instrumentals from Pretty Lights tunes, which will prelude the re-collaboration with SuperVision from Pretty Lights Music. This particular tune uses PL's "Understand Me Now" and has Jay rapping about himself as a skate kid growing up in Dallas. It's a nice laid back song that is one of Jay's best yet. Tonight, Rio Room is kicking off their Winter Series of parties in partnership with the monster Lights All Night New Years Eve festival that takes place in Dallas on December 30th & 31st. This week they have Beataucue and Database in town for you to dance to. To get you ready for the big party tonight, here is the music video for Database's latest single "New Disco". The single came out in September via Kitsuné. The video was produced by Granada Filmes and Coletivo FilmeFácil and takes a page from The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" video. Derek VanScoten a.k.a. D.V.S* has been busy this past summer, cranking out remixes for 1320 Records and Pretty Lights Music and playing festivals such as Camp Bisco. D.V.S* is now about to release his album titled Coming Up For Air on November 1st. He started piecing together the project in January, with the list of songs becoming so large it eventually became a massive 30-track double album. He has been releasing different portions of the album every few months. Now, the final product is ready for the masses. The album will showcase the cross genre approach that D.V.S* is famous for, incorporating trip-hop, dubstep, and downtempo beats with guitar riffs layered on top. Look for special guest appearances from Michael Menert and Govinda on the new album as well. D.V.S* has just released the final preview for the monster album with the track "The Bending Bloom", a nice chill downtempo tune. The duo consists of Jimmy B and Royal Highnuss of the revered Dub Assembly crew, who were doing this dubstep thing here in town way before anyone else was playing it out. The DA crew celebrated their 5 year anniversary last month. Recently, Kaskade picked AFK as finalists in the Identity Festival Contest for their tune "Lemonface", which was a collab with another Dallas prodcuer Spenca. Today is the release date for our buddy SuperVision's debut album, Telescopic, on Pretty Lights Music. By listening to his work, you can tell that SuperVision is not focusing on one particular sound. He gets most of his inspiration from digging through crates of records in search of samples for his music. His tunes have elements of hip-hop and electro, but he doesn't want to be pigeonholed into one specific genre. “I just want to give the people something they can dance to that has emotion", says the 28-year old producer. SuperVision has been living in Denver for the past year or so, mastering his craft and planning his assault. Recently, he returned to his hometown here in Dallas to play a handful of shows to packed houses at Green Elephant, Elm St. Bar, and Beauty Bar. This morning, I awoke to the terrible news of the passing of French electro producer DJ Mehdi. According to DJ Mag, he was on the roof of his home in Paris with a group of friends celebrating the birthday of Riton, his partner in Carte Blanche, when the roof collapsed. A number of other people are reported to have been injured as well. Mehdi is considered to be one of the pioneers in mixing electronic music and hip-hop. Mehdi's standout track "I Am Somebody", which features Chromeo, was used in a commercial in the U.S. for XM Radio. Back in February, Medhi produced a tune for Ed Banger's Let The Children Techno compilation in what would become his final original release. Eerily enough, the tune is called "TragicoMehdi". M83, the electronic music project by French musician Anthony Gonzalez, has a new album coming out in October called Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. Neon Indian has just released a new video teaser off the forthcoming album Era Extraña. The video, like its previous installment, was shot in Helsinki by Austin filmmaker Sean Lopez.
